Talk Their Talk ..

20. If you had the ability to talk to one species of animal, which animal would you choose to communicate with? Why?

If I could talk to any one species of animal, it would most likely be a dog. Dogs see the everyday life of a human, so it makes me wonder how they see life on a daily-basis. Dogs are said to be a mans bestfriend. They have feelings, families, and lives that work just like us as human-beings. I would like to see how they feel about the things that go on in our society and how they feel it affects them. I want to be able to understand their outlook on life as a dog, and the reasons for their actions. I think it would be interesting to know the thoughts of another species of animal, and to be able to communicate with them as if they were one of us.

STAY IN SCHOOL !

19. Should school attendance be mandatory? In your answer, be sure to explore what the function of education is, and what our nation would look like if the masses were less educated.

Yes, I think school attendance should be mandatory. Regardless of how boring or "lame" , and how much kids hate it, yes they should be in school everyday. Every day that kids are in school, is an opportunity to learn new things and extend their knowledge. An education is EXTREMELY important because you need an education to do almost everything in life. All Careers and jobs require you have an education, and the more of an education you do have, the better of a job you will be able to get. If masses of people were less educated, the world would be lost. It takes knowledge to survive in life and if kids grew up non-educated, they would not be as successful in the long-run as they would if they stayed in school everyday.

We NEED Change !

18. If you could choose two things to change about our high school campus, what would they be and why?

I would change the sports and the administration. Sports isnt necessary and draws away from the focus of reality and the adminstration is honestly unreasonably putrid. Having sports at school, creates the idea in some students heads that sports are far more important than an actual education, and throws off the focus from school work. Sports occupy most of a student's day, leaving no time for studying or homework. It paints a picture of fame and fortune the easy way, and it doesn't lead kids in the right direction to actually get a good education and earn their living. It replaces the true reason why sports are offered in school, which is to teach leadership, teamwork, and keep kids healthy. I would change the administration because the way our school is being ran, I feel, is terribly absurd. Our school has transformed the most this semester, and not in a positive aspect. I feel that some things need to change immediately in order for our school to be successful as one whole.

Its Important .

17. Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.

All the Chaos and conflicts happening at school is an issue thats important to me because it affects me as a student. People look at the things that happen at Castle Park and automatically assume I go to a bad school. Personally, as a student, I don't think the school is bad, but I do think the things that have happened recently do give the community a negative outlook on our school. Since the last school year, so much has changed. We've gotten a new principal, a new ASB advisor, and that alone has affected our school and student body.

Gotta' get it done !

16. Explain a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dillema you have faced and its impact on you.

A significant experience I've recently encountered, which is also a huge dilemma, is me not making grades for basketball. Basketball is one of the most important things in my life right now, and I've failed myself by not being able to play. One simple task such as making grades and I fell just so short of the requirements, and the consequences are the disappointing part. This means I have to work 5x as hard as I normally would, which just adds more stress because school is already hard enough. All the work, on top of basketball practices, leaves me hardly any time for life other than school, and yes it is hard, but I know my hard work will soon pay off.

In order to help YOU.

15. What is the most valuable contribution you could make to a college campus? Explain.

If I could contribute any attribute to a university, it would probably be a successful study hall. In this study hall there would be hired tutors who could help in every subject, and teachers who would be able to answer any question a student has. In hope that this study hall would help a college campus, any student should feel more than welcome to use it and visit any time they need to. I believe this would be the most valuable contribution, in my opinion, to any college campus, because it serves as an aid in every college student's life.

Money money money ..

14. Please describe your reactions/ideas to the following quote: "He does not possess wealth, it possesses him."

The way I understand this quote is that, the man doesn't make the money, but the money makes the man. If it is a case like this, someone who lives like this clearly doesn't really appreciate things they receive. Some people work extremely hard just to live day to day, and they cherish everything they have, and others, not so much. On the other hand, some people take advantage of their wealth, and let it represent them. Some want to be known as "rich" because people look up to them or idolize them, and they like that feeling. Certain people would give anything to have half of what millionaires have or even just the slightest bit of money period.

Hi my name is...

13. Write a letter to your future college roommate introducing yourself and your background.

Dear roommate,

My name is Calvin Wilson, and I'm from San Diego. I'm an African-American male and proud of it.  I'm a nice person, easy to get along with, and I don't mean to brag but I'm usually the life of every party :). I'm very open-minded and very smart. I love music and basketball, they're two of my passions. I love hawaiian food and filipino food. I enjoy watching sports center or college basketball, and my favorite dog is a bluenose pitbull. My favorite subject is history, I find it so easy and I understand it more than any other subject. I have one brother and one sister and a single mom . I was born in Arizona but I moved to California at a young age.

Life. The Yalvin Biography. day to day ...

12. Your life is a movie. Describe the first 15 minutes.

The mornings are cold, foggy, and tiring. My mom wakes me up early to get ready for school, and of course I'm exhausted. I run off few hours of sleep but manage to get up anyway. I'm rushing, making sure I don't forget anything on my way out the door....School is chaotic. I scurry to my first class ready to learn, but my mind is always so pre-occupied with so many other things. I stop and say hi to everyone and then I'm on my way. I made it to class right before the bell. I take my seat and listen to the teacher. I do my classwork, but somehow my mind still isn't there. So i sit and wait for time to pass......

..... ?

11. Ask and answer the one important question that a university won't ask you, but you wish they would.

" If you could say anything to make us overlook your GPA , what would you say? " , is a question I wish a university would ask me. Throughout my high school career, I haven't necessarily earned the best grades, but this does not mean I am not a smart person. My grades are not directly a reflection of my intelligence, rather than other conflicts that might have impacted them. Things such as my work ethic, or issues outside of school, are reason for the outcome of my GPA, not because I am not smart or do not try.

Stay Up !

10. What is the best advice you've ever received? Explain.

The best advice I ever received was to stay in school because the mind is a terrible thing to waste especially when its the key to success in this life . A lot of experiences in life involve your academic background like , receiving a job acquiring help , applying for college and so forth . A wise man once told me , " If you cherish the finer things .... Work for it !" - GP

Her Day :)

9. Given the authority to establish a holiday, what would you choose to commemorate? Why? What would the celebration look like?

If I had the authority to create my own holiday I would most likely make my moms birthday a Holiday so everyone could enjoy it with her . Everyone would have to wear birthday hats and the colors blue and pink to show appreciation of all her hard work over the years .

Decribe me ?

8. If you were to describe yourself using a quotation, what would that quotation be? After you have chosen a quote, then write a bit about how it relates to you and reveals what kind of person you are.

This quote relates to me simply because I don't care what people think or say about me . Words and jealousy are best friends that i don't have . I HONESTLY BELIEVE EVERYONE IN THE WORLD HAS THEIR SHARE OF HATERS , IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYONE TO HATE ON FEEL FREE TO HATE ON ME !

BickBak&BEEBOO

7. If you could introduce one new idea or material thing to a primitive culture, what would it be?

I would introduce the words , "Bick Back and Be Boo " . Most people don't know what those words mean or even are , I think of it as a calming phrase used to emphasize calming emotions . In other words this statement means sit back and chill . Feelings after this may cause anxiety or comfortableness , however in the midst of these words stay at ease and things should be fine . HAHAH !

CHANGE

6. How have you tried to effect change in relation to an issue of personal, local, or national significance?

In order to effect change in my life I would have to prevent change from happening every day , which is virtually impossible . I have tried to exercise change throughout my community taking place in breast cancer awareness , prevention of teen pregnancy , and the fight against aids to better my community and enrich the cultural aspects of al lives .

Save Humanity

5. If you had the responsibility to decide where $1 million should be spent to improve conditions somewhere in the world, what project(s) would you choose? Why?

If I had the opportunity to decide where 1 million dollars could be sent to improve the area i would send it to the starving nations in Africa . The news sugarcoats the issue making it seem less important when innocent babies and children are dying from malnutrition in abundance. I believe that the issue should become a crime to sit here and watch families die day after day when there is millions who could help and feed or shelter these HUMANS .

Time Machine

4. If you could go back in time and be someone in history, who would you choose to be? Why?

Honestly , if I could go back in time and be anyone I wanted to be , I would most likely be Michael Jordan . Of course this may sound a bit cliche but its true . Michael Jordan is the most inspiring basketball Hall of Famer by far simply because the player he came to be took some time due to cuts and personal failure he had to overcome . Jordan's sophmore year he was cut from his high school team being told he wasn't tall enough or strong enough to play . These words changed his career almost instantly , from being cut to making the team going on to be the star player in college and eventually becoming the World's Greatest player .

Integration

3. How have you taken something that you have learned in the classroom and integrated it into your nonacademic life?

Usually outside of school for me has nothing to do with academics other than homework . However , recently i applied studying and repetition towards my sports in order to improve my focus and leadership skills . On the court is a totally different experience than in the classroom from the crowd to the clock , all the way down to the coaches . Reactions and expectations vary within the classroom occasionally situations are different but most of the time i should be able to pull through because practice does make perfect .

COmp.

2. How does competition function in our society? To what extent is it healthy/unhealthy? Offer some real world examples taken from your life, community, culture, state, nation, or world.

Competition causes a diversified society practically blinding the fact it could possibly be unsafe towards the environment or the people around it . Competition is EVERYWHERE ! In sports , education , religion , work, family , politics or even improving or perfecting world peace . Obviously some never wonder is the thrill and entertainment of competition really needed ? Why should the public love and enjoy the vary thing drawing them apart ?

What Is Red ?

1. Pretend that you are talking to a blind man and have to describe for him what "red" is. You should use narrative and descriptive writing techniques, and try to appeal to his other senses!

- RED !!!! Overpowering , devastating , fiery , passion , these are some adjectives people would use to describe red on a short notice . A lot of things that take on or resemble the color of red have to deal with gaining attention or promoting something . For example most signs are red to present an urgent message or draw attention . The word ALERT for instance is usually emphasized in red .
